ROCKFORD-It's becoming a common scene at Rock Valley College, another celebration to honor a national championship team. Thursday it was the softball team that was recognized.

The Lady Eagles won the school's first softball championship last weekend, and RVC's 12th national championship overall. They set school records this season for wins, team batting average, and team ERA while sweeping their way through the National Tournament.

"It's an amazing feeling. I think we managed to pull everything together," says pitcher Amanda Blankenship. "We were able to use our offense to get the runs that we needed to get ahead, and we had our defense there to back us up when they tried to come back and battle us for the win."
"You find high quality kids and you continue to preach that our goal year in and year out is to not only get to the National Tournament, but it's to win the national championship," says head coach Darin Monroe. "We broke through the ice this year."

The Lady Eagles will return 13 players next season. Blankenship and shortstop Danielle Walker are the only ones who will graduate.
