The Byron Tigers have a big advantage this year, literally.

"Our line was a little smaller last year, so I think it's going to be hard to push us back," says Ross Sealby, Tigers Tight End.

"Definitely on the line, we definitely have some big guys. It's going to be hard to get through," says Danny Falconer, Tigers Running Back.

Size is going to carry the Tigers on both sides of the ball.

"We also have guys on the defensive line, and then our back field, and our two deeps are really good too," says Sealby.

"We're big up front. Our other strength is we've got a pretty good junior class coming up that had a great year as sophomores last year," says Jeff Boyer, Tigers Head Coach.

Byron was 2-7 last year after being conference champs in 2012.

"People look at that as being a disappointing year, but our kids really developed. They got better. I expect the kids that were on the team last year to bounce back," says Boyer.

Four of those kids are returning on offense.

"Ross Sealby is a senior. He started three years for us at left tight end. We're definitely going to expect to run the ball. That's who we are, that's what we do," says Boyer.

Base Byers left a gap in the quarterback spot, but a couple of guys are stepping up.

"Payton Janssen and Vern Johnson, they're both juniors and both doing a great job. We have more kids this year, so we're having competition at several spots, and that's really upped the intensity at practice for all of us," says Boyer.

The Tigers are hungry to carry that intensity over as a team in their first game.

"It's time for us to step on the field against someone else," says Boyer.

"I just can't wait to get out on that field and start hitting people," says Falconer.

The Tigers open their season against Marengo on Friday.
