Wichita, Kan.- Wichita State topped off a perfect season with a number one seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Arizona, Florida and Virginia are the three other teams that earned a number one seed in the Selection Sunday picks. Fred VanVleet and the Shockers will play Friday in Saint Louis where they won the Missouri Valley Tournament title last weekend. The Shockers will face the winner of Wednesday’s round one matchup between Texas Southern University and Cal Poly. The Midwest Region is a tough one with two of last year’s final four teams- Michigan and Louisville.
Wichita State Head Coach Greg Marshall says, “We know that it's going to be tough. We're prepared for that and it doesn't matter. If you have one off night or you play poorly one night, you won't get to the second round.”
If the Shockers advance, they will play the winner of Kentucky and No. 9 seed Kansas State. Wichita State is the first undefeated team in the NCAA Tournament since UNLV in 1991.
