Van Vleet Nets Career High

TORONTO - Fred Van Vleet showed Thursday night that he's capable of being more than a role player off the bench. He scored a career high 22 points in the Raptors 133-99 blowout win over Cleveland.

The Rockford native entered the game late in the first quarter and he scored 13 points by halftime. He made five of his first six shots including three three-pointers. Those helped the Raptors to a 25 point halftime lead.

Van Vleet added nine more points in the second half as the Raptors never let off the gas. Van Vleet's 22 points topped his previous NBA high of 16 points. He finished with six three-pointers. He also added four assists, four rebounds and one steal in 24 minutes of action.

He saw more court time than usual due to an injury to Raptors' starting point guard Kyle Lowry.

"When some of those (shots) go down early you start feeling good. The basket gets bigger," said Van Vleet to reporters following the game. "We were able to play in transition, play fast. Most of them were pretty open looks, so it's a matter of stepping into it and knocking it down."

The fact that his performance came on national TV (TNT) against a quality team added to the sweetness of the night.

"Any time you get a national TV game, we don't get many up here as in the states, so obviously you want to take advantage of that," said  Van Vleet. "We're not looking at it as the Cavs or anything, obviously they're a really good team, but we know the real trophies are handed out in June, so it's just a good win for us."
