Additonal Viva School Staff May Be Involved In Student Sexual Abuse Case

DIXON - Police are looking into whether or not top administrators at the Viva Performing Arts School may have known about a teacher sexually abusing a student and not telling anyone about it.

UPDATE (11/21/13): Dixon Police have issued an arrest warrant for School Board President Curtis Schmitt.  He's wanted for failure to report abuse or neglect.

Chief Danny Langloss says his department gave Schmitt every chance to cooperate with investigators, but he chose not to do so.  The charge against Schmitt is a Class A Misdemeanor and bond has been set at $5,000.

UPDATE (11/14/13): Police are looking into whether or not top administrators at the Viva Performing Arts School may have known about a teacher sexually abusing a student and not telling anyone about it.

Chief Danny Langloss says Director of Drama Tim Boles knew that Vocal Instructor Robert Campbell was sexually abusing a 17 year old male student.  According to a release from Dixon Police, Boles told investigators the student disclosed to him that he was being sexually abused by Campbell.  But, the student asked Boles not to tell anyone.  Also, police are looking into the school's President of the Board of Directors, Curtis Schmitt.  Langloss says they've made numerous calls to him, but Schmitt has failed to return their calls.  Officers say there is evidence to suggest Schmidtt knew about the allegations as well and failed to take action.

"It is unbelievable that so soon after the scandal at Penn State, these leaders would fail to act" says Langloss.  "It is completely unacceptable... They have a duty to these children and their families to provide safe learning environments.  If they are not responsible enough to handle these duties, then maybe they should find a different line of work."

Neither Boles or Schmitt are being charged with a crime at this time.
