Car Concerns: Get Your Wheels in Order Before the Bad Weather

WINNEBAGO -- Local car experts say it's not too late to get your wheels ready for next week's big chill.
WINNEBAGO -- Local car experts say it's not too late to get your wheels ready for next week's big chill.

Butitta Brothers in Rockford say start under the hood with the battery and make sure there's no visible corrosion. It takes more energy to start your car in very cold temperatures.

Next, make sure your wipers work and that the wiper fluid is certified for 27 below zero.

But the big mistake people make when it's really cold is not watching their coolant levels.

"Make sure that the coolant levels are proper, make sure to get proper freeze points," said Bill Brandit, Buttita Brothers. "If the coolant hasn't been flushed recently I'd recommend a flush to get to that level."

Brandt says the cold care check list really should be done in the fall and not at the last minute.
