A Parent's Dream, Free College Classes For Students

A proposed dual credit program between Rock Valley and Belvidere North would let students take college credit courses.
Belvidere- Jodie Wedige wants her daughter’s college experience to be an educational one, not an expensive one. She says “I’m interested in the cost savings, but also the advantage of getting ahead.”

She’s just one of many parents from the Belvidere High Schools at a meeting learning about a proposed dual credit program with Rock Valley College.

Cara Patterson from Rock Valley College explains “in other words they’re able to take college classes offered by Rock Valley offered at their high school locations. So it’s convenient, it saves time for students, with the amount of courses Belvidere is looking to offer here students could potentially knock out a minimum of a semester’s worth of college.”

It will be up for vote for approval at the March 17th school board meeting. If it does get approved, the district will pay for the college courses.

Patterson says “with them being here at Belvidere, they don’t have to worry about traveling to Rock Valley so that saves them a lot of time and money too in travel expenses.”

The program would offer up to twelve college level courses for the students.
