Attempted Kidnapping On Rockford's West Side

Residents on Rockford’s West Side are used to a certain amount of violence, but when there was an attempted kidnapping of 3 young girls on their way to school, the community was shocked.
ROCKFORD – Monday, February 24, the West Side of Rockford woke up to shocking news.  Three young girls who were on their way to a local school around 8 a.m. were stopped by a White male in his forties.  He offered the girls candy, if they agreed to get inside of his Green 1990 model Chevy pick-up-truck.

The girls began yelling and screaming which attracted the attention of neighbors. Deputy Chief Hopkins of the Rockford Police Department said “there was a little bit of interaction between the girls and the suspect. So there was some noise outside on the street which was good, and that drew the attention of other people.”

Eyewitness news spoke with Ronald Baldwin, a resident of the West Side who lives just a couple houses down from where the incident took place.  “our community is shocked and surprised. this neighborhood looks out for one another’s children.”
