Beloit Man Arrested after Stealing Car and Pursuit

A Beloit man is arrested after stealing a car and then trying to flee officers, just two hours after being released from Jail.

BELOIT- At 5:42 A.M. the Janesville Police Department responded to a report of a stolen car from the 2400 block of West Burbank Av. The victim told police she was warming her car up in her garage and realized a short time later that her car was missing.

At 5:50 A.M. a Deputy from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling south on US Hwy 51 in Beloit Township. The Deputy initiated a pursuit continuing southbound on Hwy 51 reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Riverside Dr. and Henry Av. in the City of Beloit, the driver attempted to turn east but lost control hitting a traffic control signal.

The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Michael L. McThune, 20, of Beloit, was arrested by the Janesville Police for Burglary and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent. The Sheriff’s Office arrested him for Fleeing to Avoid Arrest, and cited him for Operating after Suspension. The Beloit Police Department will also be issuing charges of Obstructing/Resisting Officers stemming from the foot pursuit.

Investigation showed that McThune had been released from the Rock County Jail approximately two hours prior to this incident.

McThune was booked into the Rock County Jail and will be held pending his initial court appearance Monday February 10.
