The Federal Communications Commission is proposing new rules giving online providers the right to charge more for faster lanes into your home or office.  The proposed changes would affect so-called "net neutrality" - the idea that all internet traffic should be treated equally.  Under the plan, corporations could pay internet providers for priority access.

But, critics say it means smaller competitors will get squeezed out and higher prices will be passed onto customers.

The FCC will release the proposal for public comment in May.  A final vote on the is expected by the end of the year.
