Knock Out Crime Initiative Show Results

Initiative to decrease crime has organizations and agencies working together for a safer community.

ROCKFORD - It has been a little more than a year since the Knock Out Crime initiative started in the Winnebago County. Implementation began in Summer 2013 and already a few residents have seen a change for the better.

Scott Christiansen, the Winnebago County Board Chairman, believes the partnership with neighborhood organizations has been crucial in getting results.

Meanwhile, members of the Rolling Green Association are getting creative using social media to spread the word when they notice suspicious activity, according to their vice-president Karen Hoffman.

Moreover, the president of the Ethic Village Neighborhood Organization, Valerie DeCastris, believes that even though the perception of many is that crime in Rockford is high, her neighborhood has one of the lowest crime statistics.

A public meeting for people to get involved in this initiative will be held in the upcoming months.
