NIU Huskies Arrive in Miami, Begin Orange Bowl Adventure

ROCKFORD -- The Northern Illinois Huskie football team has arrived in Miami Beach. The team took a charter from Chicago Rockford airport at 7:45am this morning headed for Miami International Airport. A second charter carrying school officials, boosters and others left Chicago Rockford at 8:15am.  They arrived shortly after 11am CST, 12 noon EST.

They'll then be checking into their hotel, the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach.

The Huskies are scheduled to have a brief, open practice this afternoon at Barry University in North Miami.

Florida State will also arrive Wednesday morning, but are flying into Fort Lauderdale.  They will not have any practices until Thursday.

Note: WTVO/WQRF Sports Director Scott Leber was on the charter this morning. Morning Anchor Ben Hutchison is also in Miami and will greet the team at the airport. Both will have live reports from Miami on Eyewitness News Local at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00pm on WTVO-17 and Eyewitness News Local at 9:00 on WQRF-39. We'll also have special 'Snow Dogs in South Beach' NIU coverage tonight from 9:30pm to 10pm on WQRF FOX-39.
