RAEDC Survey: Sharp Criticism for Rockford Business Outlook

Wednesday's "Go Global" Conference allowed businesses to network in the Forest City. However, a new study says that 18% of Rockford employers think the work climate could be fatal to their business.
ROCKFORD (WTVO) -- A recently released 'Voice of the Customer' survey by the Rockford Economic Development Commission found significant challenges to business growth in the Rockford area.

Their survey of local company executives found that nearly half plan to expand in the coming three years and that many say sales are increasing, but they are also very worried about the business environment and quality of life.  39% of local executives interviewed expressed concern over the quality of life compared to the national average of 3.3%.  They also identified the local and state business climate was a disadvantage for local businesses.

The report also details the ongoing issue in Rockford of workforce skills and development.  It reported that "Manufacturers and non-manufacturers have a drastically different view of the  workforce, with area manufacturers experiencing more difficulty filling key  positions than other business sectors."

Eyewitness News reporter Matt Rodewald went to RAEDC's 'Go Global' business expo for reaction to the findings.  Click on the story to see what local businesspeople had to say.
