Rauner Widens Lead as Primary Election Approaches

Newest poll shows millionaire businessman pulling away in four man race. Click on story to learn why.
WTVO/WQRF -- Three months ago, millionaire Chicago-area businessman Bruce Rauner was running fourth in the polls with the lowest name recoginition of any of the four candidates seeking the Republican nomination for Governor.  A 'We Ask America' poll conducted this week shows him now with a commanding and growing lead over his opponents.  The automated survey of likely Republican voters shows him with nearly 40% of the vote.  State Senator Kirk Dillard comes in second with 14.5% followed by State Senator Bill Brady with 11.7%.  Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford has the support of 8.2% of those polled.

It's no secret how Rauner is doing it, because his poll numbers began to spike the minute he began running TV ads statewide in November.  Not only was Rauner the only candidate on the air at the time, but the TV ads were also very effective.  Within weeks, the 'We Ask America' tracking poll had him leading the pack, and his numbers have continued to climb ever since.  Even some negative TV ads run against him by political action committees appear to have had little effect.

Rauner is now in a commanding position with just two weeks left to go.  The latest 'We Ask America' poll reveals that even if every undecided voter picked him closest challenger, it would still be a neck-and-neck race.
