Rockford Water Main Repair Will Cost a Pretty Penny

ROCKFORD- Fixing one of the Forest City water mains breaks will cost the city more than $200,000.

ROCKFORD- Digging and digging to repair water main breaks and freezing pipes seems like a job that never ends this winter. An expensive repair at the intersection of Corbin and Tay streets will cost the City of Rockford up to $200,000.

The city will pay for the repairs with money from the Water Division Funds Budget of $750,000.

Many of the water pipes in the city were installed in the 30’s, and the ones that are long over due need to be taken care of.

Other water departments like the North Park Water District, which serves residents in Machesney Park and Roscoe, have other things to worry about like having over 170 customers currently with frozen water service in their homes.

They have spent nearly $100,000 from the $2.9 million budget this water district has for their fiscal year. They hope to be able to use just part of the reserves to deal with whatever needs to be fix.

However, the season is not over and residents need to take precautions.
