Kansas State Fires Rockford Native Patterson

Rockford West Graduate Deb Patterson has been fired after 18 seasons as the women's basketball coach at Kansas State.
MANHATTAN, KANSAS-Rockford West graduate Deb Patterson is the winningest coach in Kansas State women's basketball history. But that wasn't enough to save her job.

Patterson has been fired after 18 seasons. Patterson's record at Kansas State was 350-226. She guided her teams to nine NCAA Tournaments and two Big 12 Championships. But it was a case of what have you done for me lately. The Lady Wildcats were only 5-13 in conference play the last two seasons. Overall they were 11-19 this season.

Athletic Director John Currie said in a news release the following statement. "It has really been a process over the last month of trying to discern what is the right way to support the program and move forward and get better. To be honest I never foresaw this day." "But as the year unfolded and I looked at where we have been over the last five years, I did not feel right about the trajectory. I felt like that it was time (for a change)."

Patterson is also a graduate of Rockford college. She is a former basketball coach at Hononegah and a former assistant basketball coach at NIU.
