Rochelle Football Preview

Scott Leber previews the Rochelle Hubs.
Rochelle, Illinois-Every football game in the Northern Illinois Big 12 seems to be a war. Rochelle appears to be well equipped for those weekly battles this year.

The Hubs seem to have most of the ingredients that good teams are made of starting with experience. They have seven starters back on offense and six on defense.

"We had four kids last year, seniors who played quite a bit, but other than that we've got everybody back," says head coach Kevin Crandall.

The Wing T offense is ready to roll with returning running backs Jordan Bernardin, Evan White and Marquez Felix. Felix rushed for more than 1,000 yards last season. And quarterback Angel Burciago also returns.

"He throws the ball as accurately as any kid we've had the last seven or eight years," says Crandall.

Crandall also says the Hubs are a little more skilled this year. That means more option runs, and a better passing attack.  "I think we'll be able to throw the ball successfully a little bit more this year. Maybe get people off our backs a little bit."

"We've been doing this since we were young," says lineman Tyler Mollett.  "We've been working together. We've got it (the offense) greased up, and I feel confident that the guys are going to get it done."

The Hubs 4-2 defense will be led by All-Conference safety Evan White, and All-Conference cornerback Jake Ryan.  And linebacker Tommy Sprowl returns after missing all of last season with a torn ACL.

"We've got a good group returning," says Crandall. "Knock on wood we're pretty healthy and things have gone real well so far."
