State Rep. Chuck Jefferson to Leave Office

The long time representative steps down according to letter submitted to Speaker of the House.
ROCKFORD - State Representative Chuck Jefferson (D-Rockford) has submitted his resignation from his seat effectively immediately.

Above is the resignation letter Jefferson sent to the Chief Clerk of the Illinois House of Representatives.  As you can see, no reason for his resignation was given.  'Eyewitness News' has calls into Jefferson's office seeking more information.

In the meantime, a committee will meet to submit the names of candidates to fill Jefferson's term.  Jefferson's Chief of Staff, Litesa Wallace, is considered a frontrunner for the position.

Both parties will then nominate a candidate to run in the November election to fill the seat effective in January.

Jefferson has served the 67th District which primarily covers Rockford's west side since 2001.  He was also a longtime member of the Winnebago County board.
