Stateline Residents Not Fired Up About Concealed Carry

An analysis by the Chicago Sun-Times found just one-half of one percent of Winnebago County residents have obtained a concealed carry permit.
ROCKFORD, IL--A recent analysis by the Chicago Sun-Times found just one-half of one percent of Winnebago County residents have obtained a concealed carry permit.

This is one of the lowest rates in the state.  Winnebago County ranks 80 out of 102 Illinois counties.  There have only been 1,614 concealed carry permits issued in the county.

KAP Gun owner, Kenny Polhamus, calls the numbers misleading.  "Between KAP Guns and two or three other instructors that I know, we've trained every one of those permit holders," he says. "[And] I guarantee you we've done over 1,600.”

State Senator, Dave Syverson, feels Springfield has made it very difficult for residents in Illinois to get a concealed carry permit.

"They're making the training much more difficult then what other states have had, and they're making the cost of it much more than what other states have done,” said Senator Syverson.
