The Force is with Us: Chicago Chosen for New Star Wars Museum

CHICAGO - The Windy City beating out San Francisco and New York as the home of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
CHICAGO - The force is strong in the Windy City.

Chicago beating out intense competition for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The museum will host more than 500,000 pieces of art and movie memorabilia from "Star Wars" director George Lucas' personal archives.

Lucas chose Chicago over San Francisco and New York, who were vying for the museum.

The planned location is currently a parking lot south of Soldier Field.

"This is a milestone for the city, but it's just one milestone on a journey as we build this new museum that is part of the history, part of the cultural, educational legacy of the city," says Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel.

The earliest the museum would open in 2018.
