Rockford Christian Wins First Sectional Title

The Rockford Christian Girls Soccer team beat 18-0 Stillman Valley in the 1A Sectional Championship Saturday.
On the soccer field, the Stateline’s top two small-school teams hooked up at the Genoa Sectional. Unbeated Stillman Valley against Rockford Christian. This game also featured the area’s top scorers Abby Timm and Haley Kittle.

This game was scoreless until early in the second half when Stillman had a kick-in. Alexa Ballard in front of the goalie booted it in for a 1-0 Stillman lead. Seven minutes later Kittle finally broke free for Rockford Christian. She got past the goalie then beat the defender to tied things up at one. This game went through two overtimes still tied at one so eventually, it went to a shootout.

Rockford Christian keeper Meaghan Heimbach came up with a clutch save to put the Royal Lions in control. Then Sydnie Smith sealed it with the Royal Lions’ third goal of the shootout. Rockford Christian wins 2-1 for the school’s first sectional championship. The Royal Lions head to the Hinkley-Big Rock Super-Sectional on Tuesday.
