Pro-Am 'Amps' Up

The Rockford Pro-Am will be a blend of golf and music this year.
ROCKFORD-Monday July 14th is when they'll tee it up at the Forest Hills Country Club for the 38th Rockford Pro-Am. But it's what's going to happen the night before that has Pro/Am organizers beaming.  They've announced a kickoff concert at the BMO Harris Bank Center that they're calling the Pro/Am Jam.

"It's just going to be something totally different than we've done for quite some time. I think it really will give us a shot in the arm," says Pro-Am Tournament Director Judi Sheley.

Performers at the Pro-Am Jam include county singer-songwriter Steve Azar who had the hit single 'Don't Have To Be Me 'Til Monday.'  And Josh Kelley who's big hit was 'Georgia Clay.'

Other entertainers include The Voice winner Javier Colon, Edwin McCain, and Hootie & the Blowfish Grammy winners Mark Bryan and Dean Felber.  Plus another Grammy winning star who's name will be revealed at a future time.

"All in all it's going to be an amazing night of music. A lot of jamming. You're going to have a little bit of soul, a little bit of country, and a little bit of Rock'n Roll," says RAVE General Manager Gordon Kaye.

As for the golfers, there will be 20 pros. Ten of them have won tournaments the past two years. Champions Tour star Kenny Perry will be back for his 11th Rockford appearance.  Other pros expected to participate include 2002 PGA Champion Rich Beem, David Hearn who just finished sixth in the Players Championship, and up-and-comer Chesson Hadley. He won the Puerto Rico Open this year, and he was the Web.com money champion last year.

"There should be some good, recognizable names for everybody," says Pro-Am Pro recruiter Adam Nicholas. "Our main goal is to have a solid player and a solid personality with each group, and I think right now we have that."

The Pro-Am Tournament will be held Monday, July 14th at the Forest Hills Country Club. The Pro-Am Jam concerts will be held Sunday, July 13th at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Tickets for the concerts will go on sale Friday, May 16th at the BMO.
