Three Overnight Shootings Start Violent Weekend

ROCKFORD - Rockford police had a busy Friday night with several overnight shootings. Two of them near liquor stores.

Officers responded to Swedish American hospital around 1:00 a.m. after reports that a victim was robbed at gunpoint and shot behind a liquor store on Rock Street. The victim was shot in the left thigh. She was treated and released. Rockford police are investigating the shooting.  Just minutes later officers were dispatched to the emergency room at Rockford Memorial Hospital for a walk in shooting victim. The male victim told police he was shot in the foot in the parking lot of a liquor store located on State Street.  The suspects fled the scene after the shooting, and the victims injuries are non life threatening. A 33-year old female was shot in the legs Friday night. It happened on the 900 block of North Winnebago Street. When officers arrived to the scene the woman was laying on the ground and told police a vehicle drove up and fired 5 shots. Two vehicles near the scene of the shooting were also struck with bullets. Police say the suspects were talking about gang involvement prior to the shooting. The victims injuries are non life threatening, she was treated and released.
