UPDATE (3/6/14): McNutt pled guilty and is sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.
UPDATE (4:02pm): More details are emerging in the situation. The Winnebago Co. Sheriff's Dept. says Kristina McNutt, 43, was in custody when Senior Deputy Donald Hartshorn stopped at the Mobil gas station at 550 Southrock Dr. to fill up on gas. During that time, police say McNutt slipped out of her handcuffs and escaped. She was able to get into the driver's seat of the squad car and sped off. The car was found abandoned in the 4900 block of Fielding Road just before 2pm. Deputies questioned residents in the area and learned McNutt had hitched a ride to the 7th St. and Sawyer Road area in southeast Rockford. Deputies converged on a home in the 3100 block of 7th St. and McNutt was taken back into custody.
McNutt was originally in custody for a contempt of court warrant. She was being transported to the Winnebago County Jail. More charges are pending a review by the Winnebago Co. State's Attorney's Office.
