Smolinski Signs With Rangers

Former Boylan baseball standout Jake Smolinki has signed with the Texas Rangers organization.
ROCKFORD-Jake Smolinski has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers organization. The former Boylan Titan standout played in the Florida Marlins minor league system last season playing in left field. He was with their AAA Pacific Coast League team in New Orleans.

Smolinski tells WTVO it was time for a change.

"I did have an offer from the Marlins. It just came down to the fact that I wanted to play for a different organization, and the Rangers were the most interested. I'd been with them (the Marlins) for five years or so, and I just wanted to be somewhere different."

At New Orleans last season Smolinski played in 95 games. In 314 at bats he batted .258 with 14 doubles, two triples and a career-high nine home runs. He also had a .345 on base percentage, and he committed only four errors in left field.

Smolinski began his professional career playing in the Washington Nationals organization.
