Former NIC-10 Stars Lead Rams

Several former NIC-10 football stars have the Rockford Rams headed for the playoffs.
ROCKFORD-At first glance, it might not look like much. But there are memories on this field – at one point, every one on this tiny field behind a local middle school starred on Friday night, lighting up the community and giving hope and fun to hundreds.

“Oh yeah, it’s always a good time coming back and being in the community where a lot of people know you and know what you can do,” says former Boylan Titan and current Rams quarterback Steve Harris.

“Rockford does have a lot of talent and that’s why we wanted to bring it back and get a lot of the local talent in and out of Rockford," says Rams head coach Kywan Edmonson.

The Rockford Rams are a young but talented semi-pro football team made up of the best of the best from the NIC-10 conference. The Rams just won the Royal Football League championship, and they will continue play in the Mid-States tournament, their playoffs, in the upcoming weeks.

“A lot of teams weren’t respecting us and things like that, and now, we’re in our third season, they’re looking more toward us as a rival game,” says Harris.

“It’s a good thing to represent Rockford. We have multiple teams such as the IceHogs, the Rockford Aviators. We’re just trying to be that football team,” says Rams receiver and former Jefferson J-Hawks James Wright.

It’s their off the field wins that they feel the most. For a Rockford community that needs good news now more than ever, the Rams give their fans something to cheer about and rally behind.

“We’re kinda growing as a semi-pro football team," says Harris. "I think Rockford has a lot to look forward to.”

“It kept me from going down the wrong path," says Wright.  "I wanted to go to college, unfortunately a few things held me back, but thanks to this, I’m able to live that dream.”
