ROCKFORD - It's not quite one dollar per gallon like the 90s, but gas prices are getting a little easier on your wallet.
The average price for gasoline is now $3.19/gal in the Forest City, that's down eight cents from last week. It's also significantly lower than the national average, which is $3.26/gal.
"The downward movement in national gasoline prices has continued for yet another week, thanks to a fall in commodity prices" says GasBuddy.com's Senior Petroleum Analyst, Patrick DeHaan. "Five states - all in the nation's midsection - are now seeing their average prices under $3/gal: Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, and Kansas."
Time will tell if Rockford will ever see prices under $3.
