Gilbert Hopes To Land Roster Spot

David Gilbert is hoping to be a full-time IceHog.
ROCKFORD-David Gilbert has spent parts of the last four seasons with the IceHogs. But he's never played more than 28 games for the Hogs in any of those seasons. This year he's hoping to wear an IceHogs sweater for an entire season.

Gilbert spent the offseason training in Chicago. The winger has made a serious committment to improving his game. Right now he's one of several players in training camp battling for a roster spot.

Wednesday night the Hogs will play their first preseason game in suburban Chicago. It'll be an important game for Gilbert and all of the guys.

"It's really important. You want to set the pace. You want to send a message through the league saying that the Rockford IceHog are going to be ready for this season," says Gilbert. It's a good opportunity for guys to show what they're made of, and to show the coaches that they deserve to be on the team."
