Hunting Trip Turns Deadly For Pair of Roscoe Hunters

MEDFORD, WI - A Roscoe man is dead and his brother seriously hurt after a drunk driver crashes into them in Wisconsin.

MEDFORD, WI - A Roscoe man is dead and his brother seriously hurt after a drunk driver crashes into them in Wisconsin.

It happened Nov. 29 around 5pm near the intersection of Miller Avenue and County Line Road.  According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Juan Salinas, 52, and Fernando Salinas, 53, both from Roscoe, were standing on or near County Line Road with a group of hunters when a vehicle allegedly driven by James Winchel, 42, came speeding in their direction.

The hunters jumped out of the way of the vehicle.  However, the Salinas were unable to do so.  Juan Salinas died from his injuries.  Fernando Salinas was seriously injured and taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Winchel is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and OWI causing injury.  He was taken to the hospital as well and is in stable condition.
