Huskies To Wear Patriotic Uniforms

NIU's football team will wear special uniforms for Wednesday's game with ball state.
DEKALB-The Huskies will have a new look for Wednesday's game against Ball State. They'll be wearing patriotic Heroes Day jersey's and helmet decals. The Huskies will be saluting both veteran and active members of the military. They'll also salute first responders.

The jerseys, which have stars on one shoulder and stripes on the other, will be auctioned off to benefit the Active Heroes Charity which supports current and former military members and their families. The Huskies like the idea of Heroes Day, and they like the uniforms.

"I think it's a good deal these combat uniforms and supporting the troops. I think it's a good deal. Teams are doing it all across the country," says NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch.

"I thought it was a great idea when we all sat down and came up with it," says head football coach Rod Carey. "It couldn't go to a better organization is my feeling."

Jim Cornelison will belt out the National Anthem before the game Wednesday. He can often be heard singing the anthem at Blackhawks games.
