Illinois Lawmakers React to President’s Remarks on Syria

Congressman Adam Kinzinger and Senator Dick Durbin react to President Obama’s announcement this afternoon.

Congress is slated to return September 9th. Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) believes the President should have gathered lawmakers immediately.

"I’m afraid that the message that was sent was actually that the President is okay with waiting giving the Syrians more time to hide their military assets. And that he's not taking very seriously in trying to put on Congress, in fact the decision to make a very strong statement that chemical weapons use cannot, will not, and should not be tolerated," explained Rep. Kinzinger.
Assistant Majority Leader Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) released the following statement regarding the situation is Syria.

"What has happened in Syria is a moral outrage. Syrian president Assad has used chemical weapons against his own people, including hundreds of children. The civilized world must now decide how to respond," stated Sen. Durbin.
