Man Beaten Left for Dead, Neighbors Look for Suspect

A man is brutally beaten and left for dead in a Rockford neighborhood. Now family and neighbors try to piece together who could be behind such a violent crime.

Neighbors say normally Oaklane Road in Southwest Rockford is quiet, just a few homes and animals line the dead-end street.

But, Saturday evening chaos erupted when a white four door car sped down the street. Resident Julie Burge says witnesses tell her that her husband yelled for the unknown man to quit speeding, that’s when the guy jumped out of the car and began to fight her husband. Neighbors found him bloodied and barely breathing on the side of the road.

"It was my husband in this foxhole and I screamed and I ran toward him and police grabbed me one in each arm and said you don't want to see him like this, you don't want to see him like this, Burge said."

Burge's husband was unrecognizable, his eye socket and nose shattered, ear ripped, choke marks across his throat. The unknown man in the white car was nowhere to be found, and police have few clues. Now Burge is calling on anyone with information to help.
