Mayor Larry Morrissey Speaks on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The mayor went to D.C. to testify how the sequestration has negatively impacted Rockford.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey was on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

Per request from Senator Dick Durbin, the mayor went to D.C. to testify against the defense sequestration.

Rockford has faced its share of problems surrounding the defense budget cuts. This year's air show was cancelled due to the inability of the armed forces to participate in the event.

Morrissey says the cancellation of the air show did more than just financial damage, "This cancellation cost us financially, but even more importantly, it cost us a blow to our confidence. At a time when we need support from the federal government, this action sent a message that our future is uncertain."

Over 32,000 jobs in the stateline could be impacted by the defense sequestration.
