Milledgeville wins 1A softball championship in rain shortened game.

Led by star pitcher Emily Bush and some timely hitting, the Milledgeville Missiles won the 1A softball state championship, but it wasn't necessarily how they drew it up.

The Missiles won 5-4, but they played barely more than five innings. They led after the fifth inning before torrential rain stopped the game around 2:35 pm. Officials pulled out the tarp and waited, only to continue waiting all afternoon.

It was past 7 pm when IHSA officials decided that they didn't have time to complete the 1A title game as well as the 2A consolation game and title game as well. So they postponed the 2A games until Sunday and awarded the Missiles the championship.

However, the Missiles won't apologize for their crown. They were dominant all season long on both ends of the ball. The state title is the first in school history, as well as the first in NUIC history.
