Nelson Mandela Has Died at Age of 95

Became international symbol for end to racial injustice in his own nation and beyond.
WTVO/WQRF -- Nelson Mandela has died at the age of 95.

The anti-apartheid activist and former South African President had been in poor health for some time.

Mandela first came to international fame as a member of the African National Congress, which was fighting racial apartheid in South Africa.  He would be arrested, charged with treason and sentenced to life in prison.

Calls for his release as a political prisoner echoed around the world -- and finally, after 27 years in age 71, he was free.

He went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize, and was elected South Africa's first black President.  A true international role model for racial justice.
