Falcons Spoil NIU's Dream Season

NIU lost to Bowling Green Friday night in the MAC Championship game.

DETROIT-There will be no BCS Bowl for NIU this season The Huskies hopes for that slipped through their fingers Friday night when they lost to Bowling Green 47-27 in the MAC Championship game

Bowling Green bolted out to a 31-13 halftime lead when sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson threw four of his five touchdown passes The Falcons had nearly 400 yards of offense in that half

NIU's defense played better in the second half, but not well enough The Huskies surrendered 574 yards of offense to Bowling Green

Johnson finished the game completing 21 of 27 passes for 393 yards and the five touchdowns Jordan Lynch ran for 126 yards and one touchdown for NIU He also passed for one touchdown, but he was intercepted twice

Lynch did break his own NCAA record for most yards rushing by a quarterback in a season He finished with 1,881

NIU's record is 12-1 The Huskies had hoped of going to the Fiesta Bowl Now they're more likely to wind up in the GoDaddycom bowl or back in Detroit in the Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl  The bowl matchups will be announced later this weekend
