Hononegah Football Preview

Peter Fleischer previews the Hononegah Indians.
Rockton, Illinois-Hononegah comes into the season with one of the best backfields in the area.  The Indians return over 3,000 yards of production in the form of a four-pronged attack.

"We do have people that have the ability to make a big play...Alex Martin, Jake Wilson, Adrian Marquez-those are guys that have some speed that we haven't seen for a while and the ability to make a big play at any time," says head coach Tim Sughroue.

The Indians aren't sitting on their laurels this year after going 9-2 last season and reaching the second round of the playoffs. They're trying to move forward.

Quarterback Joey Welsh has moved to tailback in an effort to add more versatility and explosiveness for the run game.

"To have those backs returning is really what is going to stand us apart from other teams," says new quarterback Alec Smith.

Boylan has loomed over the Indians for years, but that won't stop Hononegah from shooting for a conference title and playoff success beyond.

"This team is hungry to get beyond that," says Sughroue. "It's something that we certainly talk about on a regular basis is to get deeper into the playoffs."

"Yea it (falling short against Boylan) gets brought up, but you know we just have to look at every team the same way," says linebacker Adrian Marquez. "It would just be great and for the seniors it would mean a lot."
