Stateline fire departments run, climb, and sledge hammer their way to the top at this year's annual American Red Cross Firefighter Battle.
Stateline fire departments run, climb, and sledge hammer their way to the top at this year's annual American Red Cross Firefighter Battle.

Ten departments competed for a prize package and trophy.  All of the funds raised will benefit the Rock River Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Some familiar faces included Eyewitness News anchors Nick Toma and Christie Nicks who were on hand to help MC the battle.

Families got the chance to tour the new REACT helicopter.

Organizers say the event is a great way for the community to show their support for the Red Cross.

"We serve Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and Lee County so our chapter serves a lot of areas so to see the great support of our firefighters out here raising money to help those communities is very important to us," said Rock River Chapter Director Lisa LaSala

The reigning champions, Byron Fire Department won the battle again this year. Rockford came in second place and Cherry Valley took home third place.
