ROCKFORD - One person is dead on the city's west side.

Police were called to the 300 block of Webster in response to a shooting victim. The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Mesha Smith. She was found by her 11-year-old daughter. Smith, a mother of five, had raised concerns for the past couple of days at work according to friends.

"She's just been saying she hated her life, and she's been unhappy, and if anything happened to her or if she died or someone find her dead, they'd know who did it," said Clarissa Ingram, a long-time friend of Smith's.

Friends say Smith had gone through a break-up in recent weeks and that the ex-boyfriend had threatened her.

Police say they are speaking with a person of interest.
