Rockford's New Landlord Registry Debuted

ROCKFORD -- The city's new landlord registry is officially up and running as of Wednesday.
ROCKFORD -- The city's new landlord registry is officially up and running as of Wednesday.

The site is the result of a partnership between landlords and the city. It's designed to enhance communication between the two.

Landlords who register will receive automatic emails from the city whenever police or fire are called to their property.

The goal is to put a stop to chronic nuisance violators by holding renters and landlords accountable.

"So we see this as an immediate, for those who we get registered, it's immediate help for the landlord to find out what's going on so we improve the relationship, we address the problem, we live in a beter community," said Mayor Larry Morrissey (I-Rockford).

The deadline to landlords to register is March first.
