Rockford's St. Paul Academy Fights To Stay Open

ROCKFORD - A once thriving Stateline school is now down to just four students.
ROCKFORD - A once thriving Stateline school is now down to just four students.

St. Paul Academy made its mark on Rockford more than 20 years ago as one of the Stateline's only private African-American schools.  Today, it's the only one, and it's struggling to stay open.  St. Paul has recruited a new board of directors hoping to revitalize the school.  Their goal is to raise $1 million in 10 years to tackle their debt and recruit new students.

"If we can partner together, we could once again be restored, revived, [and] energized" says Floretta Leavy from the board of directors.

School leaders are asking the community for advice to help keep it open.  They'll have a meeting Saturday from 10:30am-1pm at St. Paul Academy.
