Suspicious Package Concern Proves to be False Alarm at Loves Park bar

Tony Juliano, 37, was charged with criminal trespassing and resisting arrest after he allegedly slipped in a side door at Hope and Anchor Pub before being chased out. Juliano and pub owners have been at odds for months after the bar decided it would no longer serve him.

LOVES PARK (WTVO) -- A scare, but that's all.

Life is back to normal at Hope and Anchor Pub, but a sour relationship turned nerve-wracking Tuesday after Tony Juliano, 37, allegedly walked into the bar's basement before being chased out.

"He used to come here frequently with his wife and his kids," says Kreena Robbins, the bar owner for the past four years. "We started to notice that when he did drink he would start having anger issues."

Robbins says it was to the point where they stopped serving him at the bar. After months away from the bar due to a protection order, Juliano returned on Tuesday.

"We immediately called police, and he ran out."

"He resisted, (and) was tazed as a result by one of our officers," said Loves Park Deputy Chief Rodney Scott.

Juliano was charged with criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. His home was  being searched late Tuesday night by the Loves Park K-9 Unit.

After reviewing survellance video, Juliano brought in a bag to the bar, but left without it. That prompted police to take exceptional caution. The Winnebago County Bomb Squad was brought in and 2nd Street was closed in the heart of rush hour for more than five hours.

Loves Park was at a standstill

"The businesses along the way here, they're aware of what's going on," said Loves Park Chief of Police Jim Puckett. "A couple of the houses near this house of interest they're pretty much cleared."

Puckett said there were a handful of evacuations in the area, but nothing more. In the end, it proved to be a false alarm.

"Nothing was found, no package was ID'd," Scott said.

The all clear came just after 7pm and it was back to work at the bar.

"This was kind of an exciting day, but everyday is exciting at the pub," said Robbins.
