Two Cases of Whooping Cough Found In Rockford Public Schools

ROCKFORD - Two children at two separate elementary schools are diagnosed with Pertussis, better known as 'whooping cough.'

The infected children go to Rolling Green and Swan Hillman elementary schools.  Both are receiving treatment and are not attending classes.

District 205 sent a letter home to parents informing them of the situation.  In it, it says children are vulnerable to whooping cough, even if they've had a vaccine.

Symptoms of whooping cough include:

  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Low-grade fever
  • Cough
  • Vomiting

Whooping cough can spread through coughing and sneezing.
