Winnebago Buy Local Holds Ice Cream Social

What better way to spend a Sunday, then having a sundae?

It's the dog days of summer and Stateliners are looking for ways to cool off. So how about a totally local ice cream social?

Winnebago Buy Local Executive Director Lauren Davis says "well we were thinking what is something everybody loves about summer and the one thing that came to mind was ice cream. So why not have each of our local business owners all in one place and have them represent a topping."

Local business owners were hard at work scooping ice cream for hundreds of Stateliners. It's their way of giving thanks for supporting them.

Davis says "I think it definitely gives business owners a warm happy feeling to know that their community supports them. And local businesses sometimes need more help getting their names out there."

Ice cream lover Joe Locke agrees. He says "support local businesses. It's pretty much the best thing you can do in your community."

Bryan Holder is the Director of Education at Rock Valley Compounding Pharmacy. They opened up shop in Rockford a little over a year ago.

Holder says "honestly it's great to see other local businesses and the community really turns out for the other local businesses."

He hopes to see that continue.

Now in its third year, Winnebago Buy Local is a not for profit group with more then one hundred and forty locally owned businesses in Winnebago County.
