28-year-old James Tomten, of Janesville, was murdered in the City of Beloit on Saturday, February 9th, 2019.

According to the Beloit Police Department, witnesses reported seeing a man slumped inside a beige Cadillac Escalade in the 800 block of Vine Street around 2:38 p.m.

Police believe Tomten was shot 12:20 p.m. in his car, just southwest of the 4th Street and Portland Avenue intersection. The car rolled to a stop and into a snowbank, where it sat running for several hours until police were called.

Police believe the suspect was a passenger in the vehicle. 

On April 7th, police in Texas arrested 38-year-old Jacob Davenport in connection with the murder of James Tomten in Beloit on February 9th.

An arrest warrant was issued for Davenport on Friday, according to the Beloit Police Department. He was arrested on Saturday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals.
