What’s an NFL team to do when it loses its top two wide receivers before it even plays it’s second game of the season? That’s the situation the Bears are in.

Cam Meredith tore his ACL in the preseason, and now Kevin White is out after breaking a shoulder blade in the Bears first game of the season.

“You really hurt for the kid (White) because he’s worked his tail off,” says offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. “He’s worked so hard, and gone through so much at this point in his career.”

Now that the Bears are down their top two receivers, and Alshon Jeffery is in Philadelphia the offense will have to start looking at guys like Deonte Thompson, Kendall Wright, and Josh Bellamy to fill those holes.

“It will be by committe,” says Loaggains. “I think each one of these guys has a skill-set. We have to make sure to put them in positions that each one of them succeeds at.

For quarterback Mike Glennon losing Meredith and White means losing the two receivers he spent the entire spring and summer throwing to. Now he has develop chemistry with different guys in a very short amount of time.

“Guys like Josh Bellamy, Deonte Thompson, and Kendall, Tre McBride,” says Glennon. “Guys are going to have to step up. We’ll have to develop that chemistry as fast as we can because there’s really no other choice.”

“Throughout the week just having great practice habits. Staying after practice getting timing down, and just stacking days, just working hard, and just working with each other, and just communicating,” says receiver Deonte Thompson explaining how the remaining receivers will rise to the challenge.

The Bears have also promoted receiver Tanner Gentry from the practice squad. The undrafted rookie showed promise in camp, and he made a few big plays in preseason.

“It’s a great opportunity. I’m very grateful, and I’m excited for this week,” says Gentry. “I’m just going to practice hard, and when my name is called I’ll be ready.”
