Bears Excel In First Practice With Pads

The Bears turned things up a bit at training camp Saturday by putting on the pads for the first time.

It  was an ideal day in Bourbonnais weatherwise. It was perfect and the practice was outstanding.
A huge crowd turning out and the fans liked what they saw.

The receivers especially shined. Cam Meredith looked like a number one receiver. Victor Cruz looked like a number two, and Deonte Thompson made a slick one-handed catch downfield.

Two rookies also stood out. Adam Shaheen. He looks like he’s going to be a playmaker at tight end, and running back Tarik Cohen. He has phenomenal speed and quickness that nobody else on this roster possesses. And Mike Glennon was solid at quarterback. Coach John Fox was very happy.

“Great enthusiasm out there. For a first day back in pads since last season I thought our guys handled it very well. We didn’t have many guys on the ground. We got through the practice unscathed.”

The one negative was Mitch Trubisky fumbling multiple snaps from center in rapid order. Coach Fox though cut him some slack.

“Well it was two different guys at center so again he is a rookie and for a first day in pads our lineman are probably the centers are a little bit more anxious to get off the ball because there is quite a bit of force getting ready to hit them so it’s not just all the quarterback,” said Fox.

Kyle Long sat out practice as the Bears continue to play it cautious with him as he recovers from ankle surgery.
The Bears will be right back on the practice field Sunday morning at 10:30.
