CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR THE BEARS AND PACKERS ARE READY TO KICK OFF THEIR SEASONS AGAINST EACH OTHER AND IN PRIME TIME. LAST YEAR IT HAPPENED AT LAMBEAU FIELD. TONIGHT SOLDIER FIELD WILL BE THE SETTING.

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY HERE AT SOLDIER FIELD. YOU SEE THE LIGHT SHINING DOWN ON ME, PICTURE-PERFECT DAY AND YET, THE BEARS CAN’T FORGET HOW THE SEASON ENDED FOR THEM LAST YEAR. THEY’VE GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND TO FIND A NEW KICKER. EDDY PINEIRO IS THEIR GUY, AND HE’S READY TO SHOW CHICAGO WHAT HE’S GOT.

PINEIRO ULTIMATELY BEAT OUT ELLIOTT FRY IN THE KICKING COMPETITION. HE DID HOWEVER MISS HIS EXTRA POINT AGAINST THE TITANS IN THE PRESEASON ONLY TO COME BACK AND MAKE ALL THREE FIELD GOALS IN THE SAME GAME. HEAD COACH MATT NAGY WANTS TO STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR PINEIRO TO BOUNCE BACK FROM FAILURE AND GO FROM THERE. SO FAR, HE’S LIKED WHAT HE’S SEEN.

“This whole entire time, he’s never run away from the challenge that we’ve given him mentally and physically,” said Nagy. “He’s attacked it full steam ahead. When you do that as a player, you build confidence within the coaching staff. Now the trust test comes here in the games, but that’s not just for him, that’s for all of us.”

THE PLAYERS ARE JUST AS SUPPORTIVE AS THE COACHING STAFF. THEY’VE BEEN CHEERING HIM ON AT PRACTICE, AT GAMES… ALONG WITH THE FANS. WE’LL SEE IF THAT SAME ENERGY CONTINUES TONIGHT.
