Samantha Rivera is beyond excited to cover all of the local sports Rockford has to offer, plus her professional hometown teams!
Before making the move back to Illinois, Samantha was an anchor/MMJ at WLUC-TV6/FOX U.P. in Marquette, MI – now a former “Yooper”. She produced and anchored shows, on top of shooting, writing, and editing various news/sports pieces while on the morning and night side. She also earned a Merit Award from The Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Best Feature/Use of Medium.
Samantha’s a proud alum of DePaul University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations & advertising. During her time there, she was an assistant producer under Carol Marin and Don Moseley with DePaul’s Center for Journalism Integrity & Excellence. Alongside that, Samantha was a sports beat/news writer for the national award-winning newspaper, The DePaulia. She also reported news/sports for DePaul’s Chicago Emmy Award-winning show, “Good Day DePaul”. Samantha was also part of the winning FOX Sports University team at DePaul who created a unique campaign for FOX and MLB’s environmental sustainability.
On top of school-related work, Samantha was a news/sports co-host for Univision and Radio DePaul’s bilingual show, “La Hora Picante” on 1200AM. She was also a communications intern for the sports/entertainment marketing consulting firm, PCG Sports Desk Media (now 4FRONT).
If you can’t tell by now, sports has always been the end goal for Samantha; she feels blessed to finally have the opportunity to do it fulltime. If you ever see her out shooting a story, please stop by and say hi! And if you’ve got a good story you think she should cover, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
