Illinois ID fails to meet new federal standards

SPRINGFIELD — The Department of Homeland Security says Illinois’s ID does not meet new federal requirements and could result in the state ID becoming invalid at federal facilities.

Illinois Secretary of State spokesperson Henry Haupt explains how the state is reacting to the decision and what the state still needs to do.

The DHS responded Friday that Illinois IDs will continue to be accepted at airports for at least two years.
